THE WATSU
The shiatsu, an ancient oriental technique of massage, has taken a modern form with the practice in water giving life to the aquatic shiatsu, which is based on the principles of Zen Shiatsu and it aims at physical well-being.
The water shiatsu is a method of hydrotherapy developed in the early eighties by an American: Harold Dull. The physical well-being is achieved through the stimulation of the body energetic flow along the meridians, imaginary lines that cross the body.
Ideal for all types of disorders of the motor-apparatus system, this technique is practiced more often during the preparation for childbirth, due to the effects of relaxation that has on the whole body. On the psychological level, water shiatsu can reduce stress and fear of solitude and it is a great help for having a positive attitude towards life.
One floats in water at body temperature and the therapist helps to make rhythmic rotatory movements or stretching ones, with the face always above the water level. In this way the muscles and tendons are stretched, the energy meridians are activated and the joints get more agility and fluency.
